The Old Millhouse is located to the south of Edinburgh, and offer luxurious fishing accommodation. This stunning property has easy access to the vast fishing portfolio in the Scottish Borders region. The converted Mill also enjoys its own 3.5 acres of private garden, and River Esk frontage.

In 2018 the Old Millhouse won the Thistle Award for “Best Self Catering Experience” (buyout).

It will take 30 minutes to reach Edinburgh Airport from this private property.

Indeed The Old Millhouse is ideally situated for quick excursions into Edinburgh city centre. The beautiful surrounding gardens have deer, kingfishers and wild otters in residence and the River Esk is a decent trout river, with sea trout and grayling too.

Converted Millhouse

The Old Millhouse was lovingly converted, with a real attention to detail. Bedrooms have luxurious fittings, like Hypnos beds, luxury bed linen, another unique touches. The main lounge has a clever TV, disguised as a mirror. The 5 bedrooms enjoy spacious bathrooms and a variety of bedding arrangements.

The property is surrounded by beautiful gardens and there’s also the hot tub/ spa pool to relax and enjoy a hot soak in the fresh air, looking out through the Cherry trees towards the river.

The house is located south of Edinburgh, with easy access to the River Tweed for Salmon, trout, grayling and sea trout fishing. In the area around the property, there is much to see and do. Roslyn Chapel, Glenkinchie distillery, Dalkeith Country Park and the Pentland Hills are all on the doorstep.

You can either self cater at the Old Millhouse, or we can arrange a full catering service. We can also take away any hassle by arranging aa housekeeper.

Foulain is a comfortable, remote cottage, in a stunning location, at the West end of Loch Erribol. This is an area of outstanding beauty, a wilderness, a real escape from modern day life. The cottage is also close to some of the best salmon and trout fishing in the Highlands.

Erribol is about 15 minutes from the village of Durness. There are many beautiful beaches, and scenic walks nearby.

The cottage sleeps 6 people, with 3 double bedrooms. Foulain is really ideal for one or two couples. The tasteful interiors of the cottage are made using natural textiles and the sofas are made by Another Country

There is a well equipped kitchen, washing machine and good wi-fi. The wood burning stove adds warmth and atmosphere.

Foulain Cottage near Loch Hope

The cottages let for 7 days minimum stay. In addition we can arrange a boat for you on Loch Hope and fishing for up to 2 rods on the stunning river Polla.

The Polla is a classic four rod spate river, with 3 miles of double bank and 14 named salmon pools.

There is good shore fishing nearby for Pollack, and the Limestone Lochs of Durness are worth a cast, if you want to catch some of the biggest and prettiest trout in Scotland.

The Durness/ Eriboll area – fishing and touring

Rest assured you could easily spend a week in this area, there is so much to see and do, for anglers and non anglers. The village of Durness is about 15 minutes from the cottage. You can buy provisions and fuel here. The fuel is available 24 hours.

Smoo cave is worth a visit, as is the Balnakeil Craft village. The craft village has many unique artists and crafts, as well as one of the best chocolate producers in the Highlands. Alba Game Fishing have been touring and fishing in this area for 16 years, and I have been fishing here for 35 years.

The limestone lochs of Durness are about 20 minutes from the cottage. These lochs are gin clear, rich in food, and hold very beautiful and often big trout. The photo above shows a typical trout from the area. These fish are wild and genetically perfect.

Location of Turin Castle

Turin Castle is located between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, in the Angus region of Scotland. This enables easy access to the salmon fishing on the North Esk and South Esk rivers, River Dee and the sea fishing charters in Arbroath. The River Tay is also accessible, located approx 1 hour south.

This historic house holds many secrets, such as a wine, whisky and gin cellar. There is also a private bar with pool table to relax in after a day on the river.

Originally built in 1659 but relocated stone by stone from the lochside in 1907 to its current site. There are ten beautifully appointed bedrooms, all with unique character and stunning views of the grounds and glens of Angus.

Kingsmuir House is a lovingly restored Victorian House in the village of Peebles, on the River Tweed. Peebles, a picturesque market town, and a 40 minute drive south from Edinburgh is the perfect fishing base. There are two stylish and comfortable suites, with Super King sized beds. The Bonnington Suite, can be split to two single beds. Both suites are spacious, and have relaxing lounge areas, as well as en-suite bathrooms. Kingsmuir House won National Winner for the best Bed and Breakfast in Scotland, at the Thistle Awards . Kingsmuir is also rated 5 star “Gold” status from VisitScotland, and the AA.

This is a property where you won’t find boxes of cereal beside the breakfast table, the levels of detail and the food are excellent. Kingsmuir rarely offers dinner, but the breakfasts are superb and there are many great restaurants within walking distance of the house.

The owner of Kingsmuir, Malcolm, is very accommodating and well-connected in the Borders. He is always willing to help, with advice, contacts and knowledge of the area. He can also secure dinner reservations, in nearby restaurants.

The Glen Clova Hotel is a remote Scottish gem, offering salmon, sea trout fishing on the River South Esk.

Fishing in the Angus Area

The Glen Clova Hotel is surrounded by some of the best river and loch fishing in Scotland, and its all close proximity to the hotel. There are 6 miles of the South Esk offering fly fishing for salmon, trout and sea trout. Access to various parts of the river is through farmers fields using our Land Rover Discovery. In addition, there are two trout lochs. Loch Brandy offers wild brown trout fishing on a typical hill loch, and closer to the hotel there is the easily accessed and stunningly beautiful Loch Heath. This is a fly fishing venue that would also suit a corporate fishing event.

It has to be said the charm of Glen Clova, is the feeling that you are in a true wilderness, and this is. Glen Clova is situated in The Cairngorms National Park, Britains last wilderness. The changing light, landscapes and rugged beauty of the Glen take your breath away. Wi-fi is not available in bedrooms, however, if you want to check in to the outside world, then the lobby area of the hotel has plenty space to sit privately and conduct your business.

Clay pigeon shooting and escorted walks can be arranged through the hotel. In summary, if you are keen on the outdoors, photography, wildlife, salmon and trout fishing, shooting, and really escaping to a lesser-known corner of Scotland, then Glen Clova is a true Hidden Gem.

Knockinaam Lodge nettles in a secluded bay in the stunning Galloway region. This corner of Scotland enjoys breathtaking seascapes, hidden coves, and unforgettable sunsets. You get a real sense of being on the edge of Scotland looking west towards the shores of Ireland.

Knockinaam was featured in the classic John Buchan novel, “The 39 Steps”. It’s remote location and privacy was the perfect venue for Sir Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower to meet secretly, to finalise plans for the D-Day invasion during the Second World War.

Head chef Tony Pierce has a fine pedigree, having fine-tuned his culinary skills at Inverlochy Castle, The Box Tree and Mallory Court restaurants. Awarded 3 AA red stars and 3 AA food rosettes, Tony uses the very best of local produce including fresh sea bass caught off the rocks outside the hotel.

Sea Fishing in near Knockinaam

Speaking of fish…you could not find a corner of Scotland offering more exciting angling opportunities than Knockinaam. Nearby you can charter a small boat and fish close to the shore for hard fighting pollock, wrasse and tope.

These awesome predators will take the fly, or lures fished with small spinning rods from the boat. Fishing in only 25-35 feet of water, underneath the majestic clifftops of the Mull of Galloway. This trip is ideal for two anglers and a guide, with the skipper maneuvering the boat to different spots. Some days have produced over 70 pollock on the fly. Expect pollock to 10 pounds, last year we had skate to 187 pounds and Tope to 50pounds.This is sea angling in Scotland at its finest.

Knockinaam has 10 beautifully appointed bedrooms and a family room. A short stroll down from the hotel is a private beach and views out to Ireland over the Irish sea.

Dignity and Time – 5 Star self catering accommodation

The properties also benefit from being approx 15 minutes from the Borders railway to Edinburgh. This takes guests to the centre of Edinburgh in approx 30 mins.

The two houses and farm are steeped in history, and there are lovely walks around the grounds and along the banks of the River Tweed.
