Why We Choose Sage Fly Fishing Rods for Our Guests

Sage is a premium American fly fishing brand with an international reputation for innovative rod design and performance.

The company manufactures its fly rods on Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA. Consequently, Sage has become a respected name among serious fly anglers worldwide.

At Alba Game Fishing, we believe our guests should have access to the same quality of tackle used by experienced anglers.

Therefore, we have invested in Sage’s flagship R8 range, alongside other specialist rods.

Our collection includes equipment for traditional Scottish salmon fishing, river trout fishing, European nymphing and trout Spey techniques.

Importantly, guests do not need to own expensive fly fishing equipment to enjoy using it.

When you book a guided fishing trip in Scotland, our guides can provide suitable Sage rods, reels and RIO fly lines.

Sage R8 Salmon Fly Rods for Fishing in Scotland

Scotland offers outstanding opportunities to experience traditional salmon fishing with double-handed Spey rods.

However, different rivers and water conditions require different rod lengths and line weights.

For this reason, Alba Game Fishing has invested in three models from the flagship Sage R8 two-handed salmon rod range.

Our Sage R8 Salmon Rod Collection

Our salmon fishing equipment includes the following Sage R8 rods:

Sage R8 13ft #8 weight: A versatile double-handed salmon rod for fishing smaller rivers and lighter line configurations.
Sage R8 14ft #9 weight: An excellent all-round choice for Scottish salmon rivers and a variety of Spey casting techniques.
Sage R8 15ft #10/11 weight: A powerful double-handed rod suited to larger rivers, heavier lines and demanding conditions.

In addition, we carry Sage Sonic and Sage X double-handed Spey rods.

These provide further options when matching equipment to individual anglers and river conditions.

As a result, our guides can select appropriate tackle for each guest, rather than relying on one rod for every situation.

Premium RIO Spey Lines for Scottish Salmon Fishing

A quality salmon rod performs best when paired with a suitable fly line. Therefore, we carry an extensive selection of premium RIO fly fishing lines.

Our salmon fishing line collection includes:

RIO OutBound fly lines
RIO Scandi shooting heads and bodies
RIO Scandi VersiTip systems
RIO Skagit shooting heads
RIO VersiLeaders with different sink rates

These line systems allow our guides to adapt to changing river conditions. For example, a floating Scandi line can suit lighter presentations and traditional Spey casting.

Alternatively, a Skagit system can help anglers cast larger flies and heavier sinking tips. Furthermore, our range of VersiLeaders provides additional control over fishing depth.

This flexibility is particularly valuable on Scottish salmon rivers, where water levels and temperatures can change throughout the season.

Sage R8 Trout Fly Rods for Guided Fishing in Scotland

Scotland is famous for its wild brown trout fishing. From Highland rivers to scenic lochs, anglers can experience a wide variety of fishing environments.

Consequently, we have invested in several Sage R8 trout rods to cover different techniques and conditions.

Our selection includes both the Sage R8 Core and Sage R8 Classic ranges.

Our Sage R8 Trout Rod Collection

We currently offer the following premium trout fly rods:

Sage R8 Core 9ft #5 weight: A versatile trout rod for dry fly fishing, nymphing and general river fishing.
Sage R8 Core 9ft #4 weight: A lighter option for delicate presentations on Scottish trout rivers.
Sage R8 Classic 9ft #5 weight: A trout rod offering a more traditional casting feel and controlled presentations.
Sage R8 Classic 9ft #4 weight: Particularly suitable for anglers who enjoy lighter tackle and delicate dry fly fishing.
Sage R8 Core 9ft 6in #6 weight: A longer, more powerful trout rod with a fighting butt.

Sage Trout Reels and RIO Gold Fly Lines

Our trout rods are paired with premium Sage trout reels and RIO Gold fly lines.

RIO Gold lines are designed to offer reliable casting performance and controlled fly presentation.

As a result, guests can enjoy a well-balanced combination of rod, reel and line.

We believe these details make a genuine difference to the overall fishing experience.

European Nymphing in Scotland with Sage ESN Rods

European nymphing has become increasingly popular among trout and grayling anglers.

This technique allows anglers to fish weighted nymphs with direct contact and excellent strike detection.

For guests interested in European nymphing in Scotland, we provide specialist Sage ESN rods and reels.

In our opinion, the Sage ESN series ranks among the finest dedicated European nymphing rods available.

These rods combine sensitive tips with the length and control needed for effective tight-line nymphing.

Furthermore, our guides can explain the technique and help guests develop their skills.

Whether you are an experienced nymph angler or trying the method for the first time, these rods are game changers and are highly enjoyable to fish with

Why Premium Fishing Equipment Matters on a Guided Trip

When booking a guided fishing holiday in Scotland, many visitors naturally focus on the fishing location.

However, the quality of the equipment can also influence their enjoyment.

A well-matched fly rod and line can make casting more comfortable and help anglers present their flies effectively.

Moreover, specialist tackle allows guests to experience techniques they may not normally use at home.

At Alba Game Fishing, we make a substantial investment in our fishing equipment.

Rather than expecting guests to bring their own premium tackle, we provide access to our extensive Sage collection.
