Description

Fishing in Lewis and Harris is diverse, exciting and blessed with some of the best scenery in Scotland. In fact, Lewis and Harris, the largest island in the Outer Hebrides, offers some of the best wild trout fishing in Scotland. Furthermore, there are approximately 2000 trout lochs on the Islands, and some of the best salmon rivers in Scotland. For example the Grimersta river and the Fhorsa River system at Uig Lodge. You can also fish for salmon in the estuary pools at Uig Lodge. The Bruton Stream is where all the water on Uig Sands drains into Uig Bay. Therefore, salmon can be caught as they drop back with the retreating tide. Boronish Bridge Pool lies downstream of the lodge and is a good pool for sea trout
Furthermore, we have a pro-guide based in Harris and available to guide in Lewis and Harris.
Meanwhile if you consider the touring options on non-fishing days, these islands on the Hebrides are hard to beat.
Trout Fishing in Lewis and Harris
To begin with, the Isle of Lewis in the north is home to several excellent lochs, including Loch Langabhat, Loch Barvas, and Loch Valtos. These lochs offer wild brown trout fishing amidst stunning scenery. Furthermore, these fish tend to be looking upwards, and hence are free-rising. Generally the trout average from ½ lb to 2 lbs.
Meanwhile, the Isle of Harris, located to the south, features a more rugged and mountainous terrain. Here, many of the hill lochs are remote but rewarding, particularly for anglers willing to walk into more isolated areas. Notably, lochs such as Loch Meavaig and Loch Bhoisimid are highly regarded for their trout fishing.
Generally you would fish with floating lines and paltered wet flies. Popular patterns include the Claret Bumble, Sedgehogs and the Goats Toe.

Sea Trout Fishing
In addition, there are many options to target sea trout in Lewis, Harris and North Uist. Sea Trout start arriving in Numbers in July, August and September. They can be caught in saltwater estuary pools, rivers and lochs. There’s a strong tradition of sea trout fishing in the Hebrides, and your guide Andy, knows where to target, and at what time of year.
Sea fishing Outer Hebrides
Without doubt one of the highlights of Lewis and Harris is the sea fishing. There are numerous marks along the coast where you can catch feisty pollack. Meanwhile for those that prefer boat fishing we can arrange a sea fishing trip from boat. This offers non anglers the chance to enjoy wildlife and scenery if they would like to tag along. On many occasions, we spot dolphins, Orcas and Eagles.
Touring Options in Lewis and Harris
Firstly on days when you take a break from fishing, there are some epic touring options on these islands.

For example the Standing Stones of Callanish, one of the finest spectacles in Scotland, I have ever seen. Remarkably, these stones precede Stonehenge by approx 2000 years.
Meanwhile you can get an insight into how the ancient villagers lived by visiting the Gearrannan Blackhouse village
Harris have some of the best beaches in Scotland. None more so than Luskentyre Beach. Also worth visiting the superb Dun Carloway Broch
Without doubt one of the best preserved Brochs in Scotland. An Iron Age structure designed to both impress and defend.
As well as the stunning scenery, and historical places of interest, I can speak from experience that I have enjoyed some of the best restaurants and bistros in Lewis and Harris, I’ve encountered in Scotland.
