Fishing?Guides in East Scotland based near Edinburgh – Team Meeting
Alba Game Fishing has a team of 15 guides in Scotland and we managed to get 9 of the team located near Edinburgh together today for a meeting on the East of Scotland and a wee bit of winter trout fishing.
It was a chance also to share new ideas about how to make our fishing guide service better and share some of the great feedback from TripAdvisor from fishing trips in Scotland last year.
A lot of good ideas were shared and we all braved the wintery weather and caught 30 trout between us. The temperature was minus 3 degrees and half the loch was frozen. This just added spice to the day. We guides love a challenge!
A chance also, for everyone to test the new Orvis Helios 3 – 9ft 5 weight (F). What a superb tool this is. I can now see what all the fuss was about. ?John Hood is one of our senior guides and SGAIC casting instructor. He gasped when he cast the rod and it brought a beaming smile to his face. A simple roll cast sent a long line snaking out over the loch and then into an overhead – with no effort a 60ft cast straight and true. The rod is uber light and feels great in your hand. I had it bent into 5 or 6 big trout today in between preparing lunch and organising the meeting. It even feels better fighting a fish, don’t ask me why..
Pretty soon, there will be new models of the Helios 3 in the shops. I’m looking forward to the 10ft 6″ 3 weight. This 905f Helios 3 rod is currently available and is a stonker.
All the trout caught today were in pristine condition. ?A testament?to Ted Wise’s diligent fishery management skills. The Whinney Loch remains one of the best trout fishing Stillwaters in East Scotland.
When the temperature is as low as this, it’s vital?to wear good thermal fingerless gloves and the new Orvis gloves were given a test today. Top marks, easy to tie flies and play fish without having to take them off and they were especially good when the wind was blowing hard later in the afternoon.
